Lochow Ranch Fish Survey - 02/2024
Lake Management
Below are links and resources pertaining to our management efforts at Lake Amanda.
Fishing
Thanks to our catch and release practices combined with a few successful spawns our bass population has greatly expanded. Now our management efforts have transitioned to achieving and maintaining a balanced fishery. In short, this means the balance of predators vs forage opportunities.
Currently, the predator population has outgrown the available forage in the lake. To address this, we need to diversify our forage and adopt a culling strategy based on recommendations. This policy will likely change from time to time. Please only harvest what you plan to eat.
Largemouth Bass
Size: (slot) 9-14 inches. Please release all fish OVER 14 inches.
Bag limit: 10 per/person per/day.
Crappie
Size: 10 inches or greater. Please release all fish UNDER 10 inches.
Bag limit: 10 per/person per/day.
Bluegill (redear, sunfish & hybrids)
Catch and release only.
Bullhead Catfish (black or yellow)
Size: No size limit.
Bag limit: No bag limit.
Bowfin and Gar
Please do NOT release bowfin or gar back into the lake if you catch them.
Herbicide Spraying for Bladderwort
Lake Amanda volunteers will soon begin spraying the herbicide Diquat for the treatment of invasive bladderwort. The first spraying will begin on Dec 2nd 2024 and conclude on Dec 9th 2024. The exact date and time is totally dependent upon the winds, this is why I have selected a date range. Signage will be posted at each entrance.
In keeping with our tradition for an overabundance of caution, it is recommended that no water be used for watering lawns for 1 week, no swimming for 3 days, and keep pets out of the water for 3 days.
Please find all information pertaining to the permitting including Safety Data Sheets for both Diquat and the surfactant below.
